After rolling out rich pins for products and recipes earlier this year, Pinterest has added another element into the mix with the Place Pins!
The idea behind Place Pins is pretty simple: users can add location information to their boards and even individual pins, which can then be displayed beautifully on an interactive map. Each Place Pin pulls location data from Foursquare’s API, including a street address and even a phone number when applicable.
This new pin type is a great way for pinners to collect ideas and plan for a vacation, or to share their journey after the fact. But it can also be a great tool for brands and small businesses to utilize in their social media marketing.
For some industries, the ways you could use Place Pins might be obvious. Are you a professional photographer? Arrange images from a photo shoot at a stunning place on a board, and add the location so your followers can go see it for themselves. A bed and breakfast? Put together boards with destinations and attractions your guests might want to see during their stay, and place them on a map so they can easily get directions.
Even if your business is a bit more sedentary, you can still use Place Pins on Pinterest to boost your brand. Along with mapping out your own content, start getting local with some of your pins! Highlight things to do and places to see in your community, and use the Place Pin feature! You’ll also want to make sure your business can be found for Place Pins. Since these pins use data from Foursquare, getting set up as a location on Foursquare will allow pinners to add your business to their pins!
