Face it, no one likes being “sold to.” We talk about this a lot with our clients who are branding with us on the radio and via our digital marketing services. While we want to increase sales and grow your business, no one cares about your product until they need it. This is why branding is so important and why we talk about marketing through storytelling.
People LOVE hearing and telling stories. It’s been this way since humans learned to communicate. Stories teach us, entertain us and bring us closer together. Anyone can tell a story, and most LOVE telling stories about themselves or their lives. But, for some odd reason, folks who are selling products or services forget about storytelling and try to just sell, sell, sell.
That’s not going to work, especially with this generation of millennials and beyond. Research shows they won’t be sold to and are so cynical about business that they will ignore your ads if they are blatant sales pitches. This crop of young adults thrives on instant information and gratification. They want to learn about the world around them and they want what they want instantly. But, if they aren’t going to listen or read your sales pitch, what’s left?
Immersing potential customers or clients into a story via your website is so important these days. If you can get them to your site via your social media marketing or via a clever radio ad, they should land on a blog or a page that tells a story. It’s not a flat out pitch but an interesting article that offers advice and information and usually has some sort of call to action. But, the trick is this: the story needs to be good.
I know what you’re saying. “I can’t write! And I don’t have time!” Well, luckily, creating content is our expertise. Telling stories is what we love. Getting your audience to you or your website is our life.
