A lot of my close male friends and coworkers are now on Pinterest. Most males’ first reactions are “I thought it was just for cooking”. This is far from the truth. Pinterest is a way for males to exchange ideas in an easy, casual way. They may not pin ideas to their boards but the activity of men on Pinterest is increasing. Pinterest is the 4th largest search engine right behind Bing, Google, and YouTube. Most of my male friends spend up to 30 minutes on Pinterest, looking for clothing ideas, cars, and even cooking.
Some men are taking the cooking idea to a new level. There are over 30 boards that are labeled something like “Thing’s my wife should cook me” or “Wife, Make this!”. Whether the wives or significant others actually pay attention to what their husband/boyfriend is posting is a different story however.
Other boards that are popular for men on Pinterest are style related. If you are a business man and you have a good amount of suit coats, sweaters, and shirts, this is a way that you can mix and match your outfit and look stylish for meetings and interactions in the office.
Pinterest has definitely changed the way men share their creativity with each other, removing the gender association on topics such as cooking, style, and creativity. So don’t worry ladies- that’s no mirage you see in the kitchen, it’s just your new and improved man courtesy of Pinterest.
