My favorite song is by Beastie Boys. It is called “So What Cha Want?” . It’s such a simple question you can really apply to a lot of things in life. In this case, what do you want? A professional running your social media platforms or an amateur? The simple answer would be a professional, and let me tell you why.
One of my relatives is in the jewelry business. She hires interns from a local college to run her social media platforms. I reviewed them the other day and noticed the website listed on the ALL social platforms were INCORRECT. My relative, not knowing much about the social media world, had no clue. She didn’t think it was that big of a deal. In the back of my head, it was clear mistake. A BIG mistake. One of the BIGGEST reasons why you are on social media is to link back to YOUR website to make a purchase or to convert into a customer. It is that black and white.
When it comes to hiring interns or college kids to run your social platforms, make sure you think of the following:
1) Do they know the strategy?
2) Are they aware of your marketing goals?
3) Are their interests in tune with your customers?
4) What is their previous experience?
5) Do they have a proven track record? If not, what ideas can they present to progress your social engagement.
If you want results, sales, progress on your website and in your business- hire someone who knows what they are doing. A quote from one of my co-workers, Steven Bauer: “If you think it’s expensive to hire a professional, wait until you hire an amateur”.
