My generation is known for not having an attention span what so ever. It takes me 30 seconds to decide whether or not I want a product, and businesses need to cater to this truncated decision making process. This is why social media is so important to your marketing mix. How do I shop for products? Online. Whether it be Pinterest, Instragram or Facebook, I know what I want before I even go to the mall. Businesses market their products on all these platforms, which is the most effective marketing strategy for my generation. Our lives are driven by social media.
For example here is a night out. We look at photos (pins) on Pinterest to plan our outfit for the night. We look at the restaurant’s website before going there. We walk into a restaurant, we Instragram a photo and then check into the restaurant via Facebook & Foursquare. Our Foursquare then shows up on our Twitter. Within 3 hours I have used 5 social media platforms.

This is not just my generation. People are on social media platforms and it is where your marketing can thrive. It’s not a question whether or not you should be on social, it’s simply a matter of how quickly and effectively can you be?
